Biennale of Women in Art, Brussels, March 2024
A six-hour durational performance in which a woman’s body contemplates the ancient figure of the spiral, an important symbol in pre-patriarchal cultures. Holding a piece of chalk in her hand, she moves through empty spaces, leaving traces of her experience on the walls and floor. Attuning to spiraling movement quality, with every whirl, Irina explores her nature and how she weaves (in)visible patterns in space.
Rather than creating an object, she is concerned with the act of creating itself: what is she leaving behind, and how is she responding? Through the temporary traces of her movement, the performance questions ideas of permanence, and artistic production, opening towards how rather than what.
For the very first time the work has been presented in Leopold Museum in Vienna in 2016 under the context of "One moment in time" Curated by Klaus Biesenbach and Tom Stromberg.
